Owen in a million

Bonts second choice goalkeeper, Owen Evans, scored twice on his first outfield start of the season to set his team up for a 4-0 win at Abermule.

The visitors, missing influential player manager Andre Marsh and head coach Meirion Appleton, were dominant in their first game in three weeks.

After settling into their game early, the visitors created a number of good chances in a one sided first half hour but couldn’t finish off. Bont were attacking at will through Sion Meredith and Andrew Gilbert down the flanks but were unable to find the finishing touch on a number of occasions.

Their inability to find the net seemed to effect Bonts game towards the end of the half and Abermule drew confidence and created a couple of good chances of their own. The home team had a series of corners as the half drew to a close and Sion Jones, deputising in goal for unavailable Trevor Jenkins, made one superb double save to keep his team in the game.

However, it was Bont who finally capitalised just before half time. The visitors broke down the right and got a cross into the penalty area. The Abermule defence cleared only as far as Ifan Evans who’s first time shot seemed to be flying wide before Owen Evans got a foot to the ball to side foot past the keeper into the net.

It was no less than Bont deserved and the visitors started the second half with real purpose. As in the first period, Bont attacked at will from the and dominated proceedings. At the same time, the defence were more than comfortable and Sion Jones barely had a touch in goal throughout the second half.

It wasn’t long before Bont doubled their lead. Michael Lowe broke down the left and found himself in space to cross to Owen Evans on the edge of the area – the youngster took on touch to control before slotting coolly past the home keeper.

The floodgates might have opened at this point but Bont were still wasting chances. The third finally came from a corner midway through the half. Ifan Evans crossed to the front post where Sion Meredith got in front of his marker to head into the roof of the net.

The goal broke the hearts of the home players whilst Bont controlled the remainder of the game and it was top scorer Michael Lowe who completed the scoring. Another Bont attack saw a cross field pass land at the feet of Lowe whose shot across goal beat the keeper and hit the back of the net.
