Bont v Knighton

07/09/2013 14:08

Despite it being a weekend of international football, no Bont players had made the Welsh squad so the game was on. The last Bont player to play for Wales was Lloyd Thomas in the 1950's and he was still the closest player to be called up today. Everyone thought Bont were playing Newbridge, but it was actually Knighton who came to town in a 52 seater bus, leaving approximately 30 people left in Knighton...or Newbridge or which ever part of cousin-marrying Powys they'd come from.

Before kick off Chairman and public face of the club Dicky Mint announced that Bont had won the "fair play" award for the 2012/13 season, with 1 red card and 15 yellows. The one red card and 7 of the yellows were because of centre back Trystan Jones, who will ironically collect the £1000 prize at the Cardiff City Stadium before Wales play Serbia on Tuesday night along with manager Rhodri Morgans, who hadn't brought a pen with him to the game to write out the team sheet. The £1000 prize "must be spent on improving facilities or equipment at the club" - so maybe a box of biros for the manager would be a good start.

The game started brightly, but that may have been because the sun was out. Knighton were like a chicken in a KFC factory - without wings, with 4 men tight in midfield narrower the than gap in Rick Wallers' arteries. They struggled to create anything, until they hoofed one massive ball over the top, where their number 11 rounded keeper Trevor Jenkins and scored 1-0 at the half to the away side.

2 minutes into the 2nd half and Bont were level. Torso of the week Dean Coleman, a rugby player by trade, playing with a stinking hangover put a great cross in, which landed perfectly on the bald spot of striker Michael Lowes' head. 1-1

It could have been Bonts' day, but it wasn't thanks to midfielder Sion Jones having impressive 2nd half stats of 2 shots, 2 off target. His first was a thunder bolt from 30 yards, hit harder than singer Chris Brown hits females which rattled the post and his 2nd was from 8 yards out and went closer to the moon than the crossbar.

The game ended 1-1 and the teams were like 2 blue whales after sex, impossible to separate. Quote of the day goes to manager Rhodri Morgans who filled the team in on a bit of handbags that occurred on the sidelines between himself and the Knighton manager. He said of the opposing manager
"He doesn't like me, well we've had words before - well - actually - he shouted at me"

For the record, next week Bont actually do play Newbridge.

Final Score - Bont XI 1 - Knighton 1
